Victim Services Haldimand Norfolk

Feeling safe and secure in your own community is something many of us take for granted. Unfortunately, women and children fleeing domestic abuse live in constant fear. Victim Services of Haldimand-Norfolk’s goal was to help them gain freedom by purchasing GPS units with alarms.

Victim Services of Haldimand and Norfolk has been awarded $4,000 from 2014 through 2018 to purchase and monitor new GPS units to be utilized for individuals in crisis who may be in need of immediate assistance. Unlike the ones for sale to the public, these units have been designed by a police officer, are the smallest GPS locaters on the market and track in real time.

One client who used the GPS unit said it allowed her to feel more confident in the community and at home. “I see the system not as a permanent solution but rather a stepping stone to take back control of my own life,” she said.
