Donna McEachern Memorial Award Fund
Donna McEachern taught for many years at Cayuga Secondary School where she made many lasting friendships with staff and students. She taught drama for 30 years, directed dozens of theatrical productions and nurtured a love for the performing arts in her students.
Donna believed in inclusivity for all and went to great lengths to ensure everyone had a chance to participate. She was the driving force behind the Sears Drama Festival (National Theatre School) as District, Regional, and Provincial Showcase Coordinator in the Brant/Oxford/Norfolk/Haldimand District.
Donna’s exuberance and one of a kind personality is greatly missed by all who knew her.
The Donna McEachern Memorial Award was established at Cayuga Secondary School by former students and friends, with the support of the McEachern family, in 2020.
The award is intended to continue the legacy of fostering a love of the performing arts and encouraging students from Cayuga to pursue post-secondary education.
Each year, a graduating student from Cayuga Secondary School will be selected to receive a financial award to be used for full time post secondary education. While preference is in pursuit of a career in the performing arts or related field (theatre, musical theatre, film or a similar drama-related line of studies), it can be towards a general undergraduate degree as well. The program may be a 2,3, or 4 year college or university program.
The successful recipient will have:
- Completed a high school drama credit
- Participated in extracurricular drama club productions (as performer, technician or production)
- Intends to pursue a career in the arts or intents to pursue a career in teaching.
In the event there is not a candidate fulfilling the above criteria, the award may be granted to a student who embodies the spirit of Donna.
The fund is maintained and administered by the Caledonia Community Foundation on behalf of the organizers which makes all donations eligible for charitable donations.
